Personal art | Cats, cards, sand, wood and a whole lot of making
I’m inspired by motion, pattern, and nature. I enjoy the beauty and depth inherent in the simple everyday things around us. I tend to work intuitively and in the moment, looking for connections and rhythm in our daily experience.
Current work | Steel, Wood, + Play
Nature has always been a core element of my journey. When I started being more intentional with my art, I was observing and documenting our journeys through time and space. I recorded hours of video capturing the rhythms that make up our daily lives, from the simple synchronous or asynchronous patterns of car blinkers waiting at a light, to the flow of people through a space over time, or the gentle change of sound as a train slows down. Our bodies are tuned to these subtle shifts, and we are always aware of them on a subconscious level. I continued to observe by taking abstract photos of vegetables, looking at the lines and inner structures. This led me to move out of the 2D space and into 3D explorations, where I bent and used wood to create forms that echoed my photos but also interacted with the surroundings. I built a series of wood sculptures that reacted with the wind. Visually, I liked how the sculptures reflected what I could not see otherwise, but surprisingly, it was the auditory aspects indicating the sync and aynchronicity that intrigued me the most. All these explorations led to my most recent series, where I have embraced the use of steel as an additional medium.
